Hawai'i Pacific University
Learning, Memories, Experiences...

Aloha,

I am learning to live each day fully. I've opened the next chapter in my life in another state, and it sometimes feels like another country…

I earned my Associate's Degree from Clackamas Community College. While attending Clackamas I served for two terms as President of the Associated Student Government.

Why I chose HPU?
I decided to come to Hawai'i Pacific University after earning a Presidential Leadership Scholarship. I was one of only twelve students to be offered a prestigious scholarship, and I was the only transfer student to be selected.

Currently this is my last semester, in May I'll earn my Bachelor's Degree in Entrepreneurial Studies (BSBA). I have worked hard and have made it on the Dean's List both years.

Approximately one third of HPU's student population is comprised of international students, and the rest is an equal combination of students from Hawai'i and the US mainland. 80% of citizens in Hawaii are non-white. Encountering so much diversity has made HPU one of the best experiences I have ever had. Some people in Portland like to talk about diversity, but I'm living it.

Did you know?
Hawai'i Pacific University was ranked as the 6th most diverse university in the world by the Institute for International Education. Pretty cool stuff!

HPU was founded in 1965. The university has approximately 7,300 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students from more than 100 countries and all 50 states.

HPU is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The teaching staff is made up of more than 225 full-time and nearly 220 part-time faculty members. More than 80%  of the full-time faculty members have a doctorate or equivalent degree in their field. The student-to-faculty ratio is 16:1, and the average class size is 22 students.

What I've done so far?
This year I was picked to be a President's Host. This distinction is given to students who are selected and specially recognized as the group who best exemplifies the spirit, diversity, and mission of Hawai'i Pacific University.

Debate:
Joined the debate team Spring 2009 and have been an active team member ever since. This past semester I won the "Spring Downtown Showdown Tournament", and I was recently ranked as the best HPU debater at our Pan Pacific Debate Tournament. (Here is a YouTube video of me debating against the USA Patriot Act for our debate team - Our debate coach picks our positions, so we must always be able to debate both sides of an issue.)

Extra curricular?
Mainly consists of surf, sand, sun... oh and studying.

Yes, living in Waikiki is tough...

I have island hopped -- I made a trip to the island of Hawai'i (The Big Island) where I drove up to Mauna Kea famous for its telecopes and also to Kaua'i (The Garden Island) where I saw the famous Waimea Canyon (My YouTube video)

The future
Thank you for being in my life

This has been a wonderful journey and I've had a lot of fun. I'll write soon about my new adventures in life and keep you updated on what I do after graduation.

The reason you are on this list is because you've made an impact in my life, and I want to thank you. Please keep in touch with me and let me know how you are doing. I appreciate your advice, and I enjoy your friendship.

A hui ho and much Aloha,
